Today: Monday December 11th, 2006.
An under water volvanic eruption and a magnitude 5.7 earthquake
centered at 47 km N-N-W of Saint George's (Greneda) in the southern
Lesser Antilles, has triggered a small tsunami.
The initial amplitude at location is estimated to be 0.137 m (or
13.7 cm) high waves propogating N and W at about 165.7 m/s (550
to 600 km/h). Final waves max. amplitude on arrival is estimated
at 1m. The event will take 1 hour 11 min (or at 9:54 AM) to reach
St Maarten.
Due to short timing and warning, the population should listen to their
local redio sattions & authorities for further advisories and/or possible
evacuation routes and plans.
